🇩🇰 Denmark — HGV driving restrictions 2026
Denmark allows heavy goods vehicles to circulate freely at weekends and on public holidays. The main constraints focus on Copenhagen (night-time and prescribed routes), on oversize transport during peak summer heat, and on ADR transport when crossing the Øresund. Here are the details.
1. General rule
✅Weekends and public holidays are free. Denmark imposes no general driving ban on HGVs at weekends or on public holidays.
2. Restrictions in Copenhagen
HGVs over 3.5 t may not travel at night, from 19:00 to 07:00.
HGVs over 18 t must use the following routes: Nørre and Vester Voldgade, Stormgade, Molmens Kanal and Gothergade; routes via Chr. IX's Gade, Kr. Bernikowsgade and Bremerholm are also permitted.
In certain cases, Copenhagen police may grant exemptions:
Københavns Politi – Trafikafdelingen
Anker Heegaardsgade 1.1, 1572 København V
Tel. 0045 / 33-141448
3. Special transport in extreme heat
From 15 June to 31 August, when the temperature exceeds 25 °C, HGVs exceeding the maximum weight or dimensions are prohibited between 12:00 and 18:00.
4. Dangerous goods transport (ADR)
HGVs carrying dangerous goods may not use the Øresund Bridge between 06:00 and 23:00.
Transport of goods in classes 1.1 and 1.5 (explosives) is limited to 5,000 kg per vehicle.
