Technical requirements

Check whether your equipment is compatible

Updated on 8 August 2026 · by Yann, working truck driver

Three things can get in the way: the phone, the card reader, the on-board unit. Here is what each one needs, and what is only needed for certain functions.

Why there is no list of compatible phones

A model-by-model list would be wrong the day it was published: dozens of phones come out every year, and the same model behaves differently depending on its Android version. Rather than announce tests that never took place, this page gives the real requirements, the ones written in the app's code. If your equipment meets them, there is no technical reason for it not to work — and if it still gets stuck, report it: that is how the list of known cases grows.

How to read the statuses

Tested

Actually used, in real working conditions, by the person who built the app.

Declared compatible

Recognised by the app from a standard or an identifier, without a trial on that exact piece of equipment.

Not tested

Should work given the requirements, but nothing confirms it. This is not a promise.

Not compatible

Does not work, for an identified technical reason.

“Not tested” never becomes “compatible” out of optimism.

Android phones

Requirements for Android phones
Requirement Needed for Status
Android 7.0 or later The whole app Declared compatible
Bluetooth Live RSE cockpit, Saute-Mouton assistant Declared compatible
A USB port that accepts a peripheral (USB OTG) Reading the driver card directly Not tested case by case
Neither of those last two Payslip audit, calendar, evidence file — from an imported file Tested

Permissions requested — and what they are for:

  • Bluetooth: to connect to the on-board unit. Without it, no live cockpit.
  • Location: Android requires it in order to allow scanning for Bluetooth devices. TruckerMaster does not use it to track you.
  • Notifications: deadline reminders and driving-time alerts.
  • Microphone: optional, only if you record a conversation for your file. The app works without it.

The detail of what each function does with your data is on the security page.

Card readers

TruckerMaster has no reader of its own and does not sell one. It uses standard USB smart card readers, the kind used for health cards or electronic signatures. The app automatically recognises the following brands, from their manufacturer identifier:

ACS (Advanced Card Systems) · Cherry · SCM Microsystems / Identiv · Gemalto / Thales · OmniKey / HID Global · Reiner SCT · Bit4id · VASCO · Castles · Realtek

A reader from another brand that complies with the CCID standard is detected as well.

Cherry ST-1044U

Tested — this is the reader used every day to develop the app.

The other brands listed

Declared compatible — recognised by their identifier, without a trial on each model.

On a phone you also need a USB-C adapter if the reader is USB-A. And if you have neither a reader nor an adapter: you can always import a card file you already have.

Tachograph

The live cockpit only works with a 2nd-generation smart tachograph — the one fitted to new vehicles since August 2023 — and only if it exposes the Bluetooth link laid down by the regulation for ITS data.

You grant access on the on-board unit, not in the app: a pairing code appears on the tachograph and you type it on the phone. Without that action by the driver, no data is accessible.

Once the link is established, the app queries the data identifiers defined by the standard and draws more than 25 pieces of information from them for the dashboard.

A 1st-generation tachograph, or an analogue model, cannot be read this way — it does not have the link.

2nd-generation smart tachograph

Declared compatible, whatever the manufacturer, as soon as the ITS link is enabled.

1st generation and analogue

Not compatible with the live link. Card reading, however, remains possible.

Manufacturers are not named here: compatibility depends on the generation of the unit and on its configuration, not on the brand written on it. See what the cockpit displays.

iPhone, iPad and computer

Compatibility outside Android
Device What works Status
iPhone / iPad The web app and importing a card file. A USB reader plugged in directly does not work: iOS does not give the browser the access it needs. Reader not compatible
Mac (Apple Silicon or Intel) Card reading through the TruckerMaster bridge you install, then import into the app. Tested
Windows / Linux PC Card reading from a browser that supports USB access. Not tested

See how to proceed on iPhone and Mac.

Not working for you?

That is the most useful information we can receive. Tell us your phone model, its Android version, your reader and the generation of your tachograph — through support. No card file or payslip needed: the message on its own is enough to start.

Does your equipment meet the requirements?

The app is free during the beta. You can try it with a card file you already have, without a reader and without connecting to the on-board unit.
