Complete Glossary: Understanding Road Transport Jargon

Updated on 13 June 2026

It's not easy to decipher the obscure acronyms and technical terms on your pay slip or your employment contract. TS, TTE, IGD, CCNTR, Coefficients... Here is the truck driver's simplified toolbox to understand their rights and speak as an equal with HR.

Collective agreement

CCNTR

The National Collective Agreement for Road Transport and auxiliary transport activities. It is the national agreement which sets all the rules specific to your profession: guaranteed minimum salary scales, working hours, overtime increases, and professional expense compensation scales.

Working time

TS (Service Time)

The Service Time is the cumulative time during which you are available to the employer. It includes driving (steering wheel), other work (loading/unloading, maintenance, administrative) and dual driving. This is the basis on which your pay hours are calculated.

Legal

TTE (Actual Working Time)

The Effective Working Time corresponds to the hours during which you carry out a real activity for your employer, excluding break times or personal breaks. The regulatory overtime thresholds are calculated from this legal value.

Professional expenses

IGD (Great Travel Allowances)

The Long-distance travel allowances (or road expenses) reimburse your meal and accommodation expenses on the road in a lump sum. They include allowance for a single meal, snack, and bedtime (room). Not subject to social security contributions.

Qualification

Coefficient (e.g.: 138M, 150M)

Written on your pay slip and your contract, the coefficient defines your qualification level in the CCNTR. For example, the 150M corresponds to a highly qualified driver of a heavy vehicle (Grand Router). It guarantees a mandatory minimum basic hourly rate.

Regulation

Daily amplitude

Theamplitude is the time elapsed between the start of your working day (start of service) and its end (end of service). It includes all your time (driving, working, waiting, cuts). In simple driving, it is 12 hours maximum (extendable to 15 hours under reduced rest conditions).

Social law

Compensatory Rest

Mandatory compensation in the form of rest granted to drivers who work night hours or exceed the authorized annual overtime quota. This is 100% paid rest in addition to your traditional paid leave.

Material

Chronotachograph

The electronic control device must be installed in the cabin of heavy vehicles. It records in real time the speeds, distances, and activities selected by the driver (driving, work, availability, rest) on their personal driver card.
