🇷🇴 Romania — HGV driving bans 2026
In Romania, heavy goods vehicle restrictions do not cover the entire road network: they target a few key strategic corridors, starting with the DN1 towards Brașov, the Black Sea coastal roads in summer, and the centre of Bucharest. Here are the details, road by road, to help you plan your journey with confidence.
1. General rule
Unlike many neighbouring countries, Romania does not impose a national weekend driving ban: the basic restrictions target mainly the DN1 (E60) corridor linking Bucharest to Brașov, one of the busiest roads in the country.
🚫DN1 (E60) — over 7.5 t. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, from 06:00 to 22:00, ban on the DN1 between Bucharest (km 7+418, junction Ion Ionescu de la Brad – Aerogării Boulevard) and Bărcănești (km 53+650, towards DN1A at km 70+550), and between Ploiești (km 67+248, DN1B) and Brașov (km 159+600, city entrance).
🚫DN1 (E60) — over 3.5 t. On Saturdays and Sundays, from 06:00 to 22:00, ban on the Bucharest ring road – Otopeni – Ploiești city entrance.
2. Exemptions
The following are not affected by these bans:
- Transport of perishable goods, refrigerated products and live animals.
- International transport where loading, unloading or customs clearance is carried out on one of the closed sections.
- Vehicles holding a special permit issued by the CNADNR (38 Dinicu Golescu Boulevard, Sector 1, Bucharest).
3. Public holidays 2026
On the dates below, the DN1 restriction (06:00–22:00) applies as on a weekend day. The Romanian calendar follows the Orthodox rite, hence Easter and Pentecost dates differ from the Western calendar.

7 January — Saint John the Baptist
24 January — Union Day
