RSE analysis of the driver card
Understand the infringements recorded on your driver card
Updated on 8 August 2026 · by Yann, working truck driver
TruckerMaster spots the overruns and anomalies in your activities, then explains the rule concerned, the period and the severity level.
Raw data turned into explanations you can understand
Your driver card records neither infringements nor fines: only time-stamped activities. The analysis compares those activities with the thresholds of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 and tells you what goes over, when, and by how much.
| Situation detected | What triggers the detection | Period | Level | Class (France) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weekly driving time exceeded | More than 56 h of driving in the week | Fixed week | Alert | 5th class |
| Two-week driving time exceeded | More than 90 h in total over two consecutive weeks | Two-week period | Alert | 5th class |
| Daily driving between 10 h and 11 h | Day going beyond 10 h of driving | Day | Warning | 4th class |
| Daily driving between 11 h and 12 h | Day going beyond 11 h of driving | Day | Alert | 5th class |
| Daily driving of 12 h or more | Day going beyond 12 h of driving | Day | Alert | 5th class |
| 9 h exceeded with no extension available | Day beyond 9 h when both weekly extensions to 10 h have already been used | Day + week | Warning | 4th class |
| Continuous driving without a sufficient break | More than 4 h 30 of driving in a row without a valid break; level raised beyond 6 h | Driving sequence | Warning or alert | 4th or 5th class |
| Too many reduced daily rests | More than three reduced rests between two weekly rests | Between two weekly rests | Warning | 4th class |
| Insufficient daily rest | Measured rest below the applicable minimum | Day | Warning | 4th class |
What the analysis does not cover. Multi-manning, ferry or train crossings, the derogations of Article 12, working time in the sense of labour law and the technical events recorded by the tachograph are not among the situations analysed. The absence of an alert therefore does not mean there is nothing to report.
Not every infringement carries the same weight
Two alert levels are used in the app, depending on the size of the overrun: a warning for a moderate deviation, an alert for a significant overrun. On top of that comes the corresponding French contravention class, with an amount range.
That's what separates a fine for a driving-time overrun from a simple warning: what matters isn't just that the limit was exceeded, but by how much — the size of the gap decides the severity class, and the class decides the penalty you're exposed to.
⚠ The amounts are indicative. Penalties and their amounts vary depending on the country, the severity, the circumstances and the enforcement authority. The ranges displayed correspond to the French contravention classes and in no way prejudge what would be applied in another country, nor the amount actually imposed in a specific case. A deviation spotted by the app is not a decision: it is a piece of data that deserves your attention.
Find the day and the period concerned
An alert without context is useless. Every detection stays tied to your real data:
- you open the infringement and immediately see the date and the nature of the overrun;
- you look at the activities of the day that caused it, hour by hour;
- you understand the calculation: the duration recorded against the applicable threshold;
- you find the day again in your driver card calendar;
- you keep the analysis in your evidence file if it may be useful later on.
Past infringement or ongoing risk: not the same thing
📇 After reading the card
The analysis covers events that are already recorded. What is established is established for good: the card is what counts.
📡 With the connected cockpit
The live counters let you see a limit approaching. A preventive alert is not yet an infringement — it stops you from creating one.
In both cases, an automatic analysis does not replace checking the data of the approved tachograph, which remains the regulatory reference.
Rules explained with their sources
Every threshold applied comes from a text, and every text can be consulted:
- RSE rules explained simply — driving, breaks and rest.
- Duty span, duty time and breaks — the notions not to be confused.
- The driver's right to return — Article 8(8a).
- The two hours to get back home — Article 12.
- Challenging an infringement found on the tachograph.

Frequently asked questions about infringements
How do I check the infringements on my driver card?▾
You read your card with a USB reader, or you import a file you already have. TruckerMaster rebuilds your days and applies the RSE rules to your activities: the overruns detected appear with their date and their explanation.
Does the driver card directly contain the amount of the fines?▾
No. The card only records time-stamped activities: driving, work, availability, rest. No fine, no legal classification. It is the analysis that compares those activities with the regulatory thresholds.
Does TruckerMaster detect every infringement?▾
No, and that has to be said plainly. The analysis covers driving overruns (daily, weekly, over two weeks), continuous driving without a sufficient break, and daily rests that are insufficient or reduced too often. Other situations — multi-manning, ferry, derogations, working time — are not covered.
What is the difference between a warning and an infringement?▾
The app distinguishes two alert levels depending on the severity of the overrun. A moderate overrun is flagged as a warning, a significant overrun as a red alert. In both cases it is a deviation found in your data, not a decision by an enforcement authority.
Are the amounts the same all over Europe?▾
No. The amounts displayed correspond to the French contravention classes and are given as an indication only. Each country applies its own scale, and the amount actually imposed depends on the severity, the circumstances and the authority carrying out the check.
Can I find the day concerned?▾
Yes. Every infringement is tied to a date: you open the day in your calendar and you find the activities that triggered the detection, hour by hour.
Does the analysis work without an internet connection?▾
Yes. Decoding the card and the regulatory analysis run on your device. No connection is needed to read your infringements.
Can I use this analysis during a roadside check?▾
That is not what it is for. During a check, it is the data of the tachograph and of your card that count. The analysis helps you understand your situation beforehand, not argue with an inspector.
How do I challenge a tachograph infringement?▾
Derogations exist in certain cases and your rights during a check are set out in law. Our guide details the room for manoeuvre and the steps to follow — see challenging a penalty notice based on the tachograph.
Can the cockpit prevent an infringement before it happens?▾
The connected cockpit shows your counters live and flags the limits that are getting close, which lets you anticipate. But a preventive alert is not a guarantee: the approved tachograph remains the reference.
