🇬🇷 Greece — truck driving bans 2026
In Greece, restrictions do not apply everywhere: they target the heaviest trucks and only on specific motorway sections designated by the government. The schedule focuses on summer Fridays and Sundays throughout the year. Here are the details.
1. General rule
The ban targets trucks whose payload exceeds 1.5 t, and only on certain motorway sections defined by the government. It applies:
☀️Summer Fridays. Every Friday from 12 June to 11 September, between 16h and 21h.
🚫Sundays all year. Every Sunday, between 15h and 21h or 22h depending on the case.
2. Exemptions
The following are exempt from the ban:
- Perishable goods.
- Fresh produce.
- Live animals.
3. Good to know
🍺Alcohol: maximum 0.5 g of alcohol per litre of blood.
💡Lights: dipped headlights compulsory during the day in poor visibility.
📞Useful numbers: 100 (police; 171 for tourist police), 199 or 112 (fire brigade), 166 (medical emergency, in Athens).
