🇸🇮 Slovenia — HGV driving bans 2026

Small but a major crossroads between Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia, Slovenia focuses its restrictions on Sundays and public holidays, with a marked tightening during the summer season. The rules apply to named routes one by one — here are the details, road by road.

⚠️ Calendars (public holidays, summer dates) and thresholds may change. This page is kept as up to date as possible but does not replace the official decree: before a sensitive journey or in case of dispute, check the regulations in force with the Slovenian authorities (DARS, police). GVW stands for Gross Vehicle Weight.

1. General rule

Slovenia applies targeted bans on specific routes, not across the entire network:

🚫Sundays and public holidays. HGVs with a GVW exceeding 7.5 t may not travel between 08:00 and 21:00 on a specific list of motorways and national roads (see section 2).

🛑Foreign lorries stopped at the border. During ban periods, foreign-registered HGVs exceeding 7 t GVW or measuring more than 14 m in length are not admitted into Slovenia: they must park in the designated areas at border crossings.
